New initiative within TechSoup’s Digital Activism Program, focused on countering disinformation in the CEE.

We are excited to announce the Baltic Centre for Media Excellence (BCME) cooperation with the TechSoup Global Network. Now we are part of a new initiative within the Digital Activism Program focused on countering disinformation in Central and Eastern Europe.

The rise of disinformation is a global concern, and TechSoup is committed to providing multi-faceted support to civil society organizations (CSOs) across the globe, including the CEE, Latin America, West Africa, and (recently) South Africa.

The main goal of TechSoup work within the program is to establish a strong network of CSOs and frontline workers equipped with technology, tools, and knowledge to identify and tackle disinformation in Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia.

Within the program we all will conduct research on disinformation threats in the region in the form of mapping reports, CSO sector challenges and needs diagnosis, provide chosen CSOs with complex support, including training and workshops, individual consultations, community building events, small grants, and access to tools and tech solutions that will help them design effective disinformation response actions.

“We are excited to cooperate with TechSoup on this program as it will help us and our partners across the Baltics to strengthen disinformation resilience, research capacities and ability to counter efforts by malign actors,” says Gunta Sloga, the Executive Director of BCME.

Our work in the CEE is partly supported by Google.org and is led by TechSoup Europe in close collaboration with TechSoup Global Network’s partners, including CRI, Funky Citizens, Metamorphosis Foundation, NIOK Foundation, PDCS, and VIA Association.
