“Cooperation between journalists and politicians: risks and benefits”, a discussion at the conversation festival Lampa 2018.

Journalists and politicians usually live on opposite sides of the fence, but the boundaries between desirable and unacceptable practice are defined based on the culture of the newsroom, individual values and many other factors. Representatives from each of the largest parties contesting the parliamentary elections in Latvia were invited to define benefits and no-go’s of politician-media cooperation together with leading journalists from Latvia who were also on the panel.

Stolen elections: voters in the grip of manipulators

The BCME-organized public discussion, “Living with Trump”, was one of the most attended events at the First Latvian “Conversation Festival LAMPA”, visited by a total of 9,000 people. The discussion featured the editor-in-chief of the American internet media company “Buzzfeed”, Ben Smith, who is listed among the 100 Most Creative People in Business by business media brand “Fast Company”. The discussion provided the public with a unique opportunity to join the global debate on the emerging journalistic challenges of the “post-truth” era.
